Shodo is Not Only Writing

Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy) came from China to Japan around the 6th to 7th century. It has since involved into a uniquely Japanese calligraphy culture called Shodo. (書道）Shodo is not just about writing beautiful characters, but an art that allows you to face yourself and put your emotions and feeling into it.

Hi I’m Yukari

I went to the Master’s Program at the Japan Educational Shodo Art School (日本教育書道芸術学院師範科)(2006–2008) , earning a calligraphy instructor certificate in Tokyo. I won Excellence Awards at both the 32nd In-House Calligraphy Competition and the 33rd New Year Calligraphy Contest.

In 2009, I moved to Ottawa with my husband. Despite raising three children, I continue to create and have participated annually in the Calligraphy Canada competition since 2010, winning multiple awards. My works are collected by patrons in Canada and Japan and serve as models for local teachers.
